With the renewal of Frenkie de Jong now completed, FC Barcelona will move to secure the contract extension of Eric Garcia next.
After all, the 24-year-old defender has become an integral member of Hansi Flick’s team and only has eight months left on his current contract.
Earlier today, reports emerged from England claiming that Chelsea are keeping tabs on Garcia’s situation, willing to pounce if negotiations with Barcelona over an extension do not progress.
Now, speaking in an interview with SPORT, Eric Garcia has broken his silence on the contract situation, confirming that talks are underway with Barcelona.
“There are talks going on, and hopefully they will come to fruition as soon as possible,” stated the versatile defender.

When further asked if his only consideration is to stay at Barcelona beyond this season, the Spaniard responded in the affirmative, saying: “Yes.”
Garcia was close to leaving Barcelona back in January, with a return to Girona, where he had excelled on loan in 2023/24, becoming a strong possibility.
However, manager Flick stepped in and convinced the Spaniard to remain at Barcelona and assured the player that he would have an important role in the team moving forward.
And that is exactly how things have turned out, with Garcia becoming a key player for the German tactician, playing a critical role in last season’s success and becoming a regular this season.
It would not be a far stretch to say that Garcia has been one of Barça’s top players this season, and a renewal will be well deserved for the versatile star.
