FC Barcelona have successfully tied down some of their most important players with renewals in the last few months, but one player whose future still remains subject to a lot of uncertainty is the defender Andreas Christensen.

Currently, the Danish center-back is away from the Catalan club for national team duties, and in such a context, Mundo Deportivo reports that he appeared in an interview with Tipsbladet in which he talked about his future.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Christensen made it clear that this is not something that is affecting his performances:

“The situation does not make me feel uncertain. I think we are in a good position, and nothing can change my day-to-day life. Of course, you want to have everything under control and know what is happening, but it’s not something that affects us during the day, nor something we talk about. We all have desires, but it’s not something I think about daily. I try to do what I can on the field and hope that’s enough to stay in the team.”

The defender revealed that he does not yet have a plan B in mind if he ends up leaving Barcelona:

“Hopefully, it all ends that way. I don’t have a plan B, but I have no idea yet. I prefer to focus on being part of the team and playing as much as I can. Now I have to see what happens. If there is something to do, of course, they [His agent] will do it. Of course, I would like to know what is happening, but I prefer to focus on what I can do.”

Still, the center-back showed an openness to returning to his boyhood club, Brøndby IF:

“In an ideal world, I would like to end my career at Brøndby, but it also depends on the stage of life I am in. It also depends on what my family is doing. I feel I still have a lot to contribute; I’m 29, and I can still compete. When you are that age… it depends a lot on the situation, so it’s hard to say. I repeat, in an ideal world, I would like it to happen. But if it doesn’t, I won’t be angry or sad. It depends a lot on my family’s situation and my performance as a player.”

The Barcelona defender was recently caught watching a Chelsea game, leading to speculation about a return to the London club, and he also addressed this episode in this interview:

“I think it was incredibly well captured! We always sit on the bus, especially if it’s a bit far from the hotel, and we watch matches if there’s a good one. Some watch on iPads, others on phones. I forgot to switch the page on the phone. Usually, it’s just to pass the time, and when you arrive at the stadium, you focus completely.”

Still, he was not shy about expressing his feelings for Chelsea:

“Chelsea has meant so much to me, and the club is also one of the main reasons I am now at Barcelona. I’ve won titles with them, I’ve won the biggest trophy of all, the Champions League, and I’m incredibly happy about my time there. Now I don’t just watch their Champions League matches, but also the Premier League, and you learn a lot when you’re no longer there. But at that moment, I forgot to stop watching. Still, I’m happy with my time there, and I still have some friends.”

Hopefully, Andreas Christensen’s future will be sorted out soon. There is a lot of competition for the center-back position at Barcelona, so a move away from the club might not be the worst option for him, but it remains to be seen whether he will be offered a renewal by the Catalan club.
