Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen has made it clear that he wants to remain at the club beyond this summer.

The 29-year-old is in the final year of his contract and will be free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.

Barcelona have yet to open talks with Christensen’s representatives over a new contract, but he insists that his future is tied to the Blaugranas for as long as the club wants him.

At the moment, Christensen has chosen to remain calm about the situation and is keen to focus on his performances, hoping it’ll influence the decision of the club hierarchy.

“I don’t think it’s something that affects my day-to-day life,” he said during an interview (via SPORT).

“Of course, you’d like to have everything under control and know what’s going on, but it’s not something we talk about at home.”

Christensen has put his injury issues behind him. The Danish defender, who earns around £250k per week at Barcelona, struggled with Achilles tendon problems last season.

However, he has shaken off those issues, making 10 appearances across all competitions this season, although he has only been named in the starting line-up three times.

Christensen believes that the best way to secure his future is through consistent performances at the heart of the Barcelona backline.

“I try to do what I can on the pitch, and I hope that’s enough to keep me there,” he said. “If there’s something to be done, of course, he’ll [his agent] do it.

“I have no idea where the situation is headed. I prefer to focus on being part of the team and playing as much as I can.”

Christensen’s career at Barcelona has been disrupted by recurring injury problems.

He has made 90 appearances for the Blaugranas since joining on a free transfer from Chelsea three years ago.

Barcelona have managed to tie down their key players to new contracts despite their financial issues.

With Inigo Martinez leaving the club in the summer, Christensen will be an asset for Hansi Flick this season. But it remains to be seen if Barcelona are impressed enough to open contract talks.
