Eric Garcia has proven himself to be an ‘untouchable’ in FC Barcelona’s starting lineup under Hansi Flick this season.

Be it at right-back or at centre-back, the 24-year-old Spaniard has made himself indispensable to the manager with solid, consistent displays match after match.

Garcia continues to prove himself

As reported by SPORT, Garcia continues to strengthen his case for a contract renewal at Barcelona even as he attracts interest from elsewhere.

The versatile defender’s current contract stands to run out at the end of the season. It means, from January, he will be able to negotiate with any club and secure a deal for a free transfer in the summer.

Luis Enrique reportedly wants him at Paris Saint-Germain, and Premier League clubs are also keeping an eye on him.

Through all this, Garcia continues to prove himself as an untouchable for Flick, through his commitment, versatility, and performance.

Indeed, during a generally inconsistent start to the season for Barcelona, the defender has been one of the team’s most solid and consistent performers.

Another strong performance delivered

On Sunday, against Celta Vigo, Eric took to the pitch wearing a protective mask after suffering a nasal fracture earlier in the week. Flick was forced to deploy him at right-back due to Jules Kounde’s discomfort, and once again, the player delivered.

Garcia finished the game with four out of seven duels won, one out of one aerial duel, 63 out of 66 passes completed in the opposition half, and three ball recoveries.

Given his contract situation, Barcelona must now accelerate efforts to finalise his renewal.

Progress in talks over an extension has been slow, but with each strong performance from the Spaniard, the pressure increases on Deco and the club to reach an agreement soon.
