The past 24 hours in Catalonia have been turbulent, to say the least.

From Ilkay Gundogan’s departure to talk of Andreas Christensen following the same path, it appears nobody at the club is safe at this point.

The right-back position, however, has come out as the position with the most transfer news through the day, especially with Joao Cancelo reportedly close to a move to Saudi Arabia.

Barcelona, as revealed earlier today, were thus looking towards Almeria right-back Marc Pubill as a possible signing for the summer and MARCA provides an update on the same.

Tables have turned

As revealed by the Spanish outlet, sources from Barcelona deny any interest in signing Pubill as it stands.

The report even furthers that Hector Fort, who appeared to be on his way out had Pubill’s arrival accelerated, has his mind fixated on succeeding in the Catalan capital. The door to his departure, thus, appears shut.

The 21-year-old Almeria full-back, who won the gold medal at the Olympics with Spain, was said to be highly rated by Barcelona and the club were said to be willing to offer €5 million for his services on loan.

It was even rumoured that the loan stint would be with an option to buy attached, likely one placed at around the €12 million mark. Pubill would thus become Barcelona’s backup right-back behind Jules Kounde who is still the manager’s preferred option.

With the board denying any such movements, it remains to be seen what comes of the right-back situation in the coming weeks.
