As has already been well-established by now, Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is seen as a top priority for FC Barcelona for the summer transfer window of 2026.
The Blaugrana are likely to part ways with Robert Lewandowski, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Barça plan on signing a top-quality centre-forward to replace the Pole, and Alvarez has emerged as the most preferred option despite the possibility of complications in the deal.
Now, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Barcelona sporting director Deco has already held talks with Julian Alvarez’s camp.
Indeed, there was an initial meeting earlier in the month wherein the former midfielder met with the Argentine international’s entourage to discuss the possibility of a summer transfer.

Even though Alvarez’s form has been on a decline over the past couple of months or so, Barça are convinced about the World Cup winner’s quality.
Moreover, he is understood to be the top preference of the Blaugrana president, Joan Laporta.
As such, the La Liga champions are prepared to make the efforts necessary to rope in the 25-year-old in the summer, although much will depend on whether they are back to the 1:1 Financial Fair Play rule by then.
It also remains to be seen if the upcoming presidential elections have an impact on the transfer plans to bring in Alvarez.
For now, however, the 2022 World Cup winner is seen as a key target for the summer and Deco has held an initial meeting to test the waters.
