FC Barcelona played their first home game of the 2025/26 season on Sunday night, but contrary to plans, the match took place at Estadi Johan Cruyff instead of the renovated Spotify Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana spared no effort in trying to return to Camp Nou in time for the Valencia game on Sunday, but it was not possible as the club were unable to secure the required licences.

As has already been reported, the upcoming game against Getafe is also expected to take place at Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Plan for return against Real Sociedad

As per the latest update from El Chiringuito TV, Barcelona’s plan is to return to the Spotify Camp Nou for their home match against Real Sociedad.

The Blaugrana will host the Basque club on 28 September in Matchweek 7 of the 2025/26 La Liga.

Even though there was some pessimism about the stadium being ready by that time, the idea now is for the match to take place at the renovated arena.

In fact, the report states that Barcelona have already sent the required documentation to the City Council so as to secure the approval to reopen Camp Nou.

Should the Council grant the First Occupancy Licence, Barcelona will be able to reopen the stadium partially, with a reduced capacity of 27,000 fans.

It could pave the way for them to also host Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League at the Spotify Camp Nou, although UEFA has some additional requirements that will need to be fulfilled.

Either way, it appears that Barcelona are gearing up for a return to Camp Nou later this month and will hope to be successful after multiple failures.
