FC Barcelona have had quite a busy summer transfer window so far, and their workload is not expected to decrease in the last few days of the market. The Catalans are still working on signing a new center-forward, Julian Alvarez still being their preferred candidate, and some reports indicate they might also try to sign another centre-back before the market closes.

The Catalans have been linked with several interesting center-back options during this summer, including the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Cuti Romero. However, they have not signed anyone for this position so far.

Meanwhile, their list of targets for this position is also seeing some new entrants. This is clear from a report from Mundo Deportivo, which cites the Dutch outlet Voetbal International to claim that Barcelona are monitoring the young Twente defender Ruud Nijstad.

Despite being only 18 years of age, the center-back has established himself as an important part of the Twente first team, and his importance is expected to only increase further with the arrival of Eric ten Hag on the bench.

For their part, Barcelona have already contacted the Eredivisie club for the youngster and can put in an offer for him in the coming few days. However, ten Hag is not too keen to see such an important part of his team leave, and has reportedly ruled out a transfer for him this summer.

Ruud Nijstad has impressed in his early career with his excellent ball-playing skills and the way he dominates in the air, helped in this latter aspect by his height of 1.95m. He has a contract with Twente till 2029, which can make things difficult for the Catalans if the Dutch side does not agree to a transfer, but his release clause stands at only €10 million.
