Barcelona face decision over €60m FFP margin ahead of January | OneFootball

FC Barcelona had a very busy summer transfer window as they significantly reinforced their team with up to seven new signings. The Blaugranes brought in some very exciting players, including the likes of Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri Hernandez, Joao Cancelo, Jesse Bisiwu, Gabriel Jesus, and Dominik Livakovic.

The Catalans had been suffering from FFP problems for the last few years, and their activity this summer has also been a sign of the improving financial situation at the club.

In fact, according to SPORT, Barcelona still have around €60 million in FFP margin even after having made all these signings, and they have two different options on how to utilize this margin.

One of these options would be to bring in more reinforcements during the upcoming winter transfer window. In fact, Deco is already planning his moves for January, as the Catalans were unable to bring in a new center-back during the summer.

On the other hand, the Blaugranes can also use this FFP margin to increase their wage bill for the 2027-28 season, when they will see their income, and thus their salary space, decrease. This is mainly because they will have to play their home matches at Estadi Olympic Luis Companys because of works scheduled at the Spotify Camp Nou, for the placement of a roof over the stadium.

Article 44.4 of La Liga regulations allows for this carryover of unused wage margin, albeit with two conditions. Firstly, the club must request it before the start of the winter transfer window. Secondly, only 75% of the carried-over amount can be used next year, which will come out to be around €45 million.

Thus, Barcelona will have to make a decision on whether to use this wage margin in January to bring new players, or to carry it over to the next year, when they might need it to make more signings.
