Barcelona will be looking to capitalise on Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid’s mishaps as they take on Valencia at the Mestalla this afternoon.

The club are coming on the back of three consecutive wins in La Liga, where the attack was solid, led by the plaudits of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, among others.

However, there are many question marks over Yamal’s participation after the attacker picked up a knock heading into this game.

Yamal is a big doubt

According to Mundo Deportivo, Lamine Yamal is a major doubt ahead of Barcelona’s game against Valencia this afternoon.

The forward notably missed training yesterday and had to train separately after picking up a knock.

Although the player did travel with the team to Valencia and is part of the matchday squad as well, his place in the starting eleven is not guaranteed.

Coach Hansi Flick is unlikely to take any risks here either, as the German will be keeping one eye on the Wednesday clash against Feyenoord in the Champions League.

Who will Yamal make way for?

If Yamal’s knock keeps him out of the starting eleven this afternoon, it could pave the way for other stars to get a look in.

Karim Adeyemi looks best-placed to replace Yamal in the frontline, potentially starting alongside Raphinha and Anthony Gordon.

Flick also has the option of starting Fermin Lopez, though Adeyemi will be a more natural replacement due to the speed the German offers to the table.

Another curious option will be Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian international can operate as a number nine, which in turn, would allow Raphinha to occupy the right wing spot.

That said, it is unlikely that Gabriel will rushed into action and given a start. He is, however, expected to get his first minutes for Barcelona against Valencia this afternoon while the other new signing, Rodri, will be pushing for his first start for Barcelona.
