Barcelona star Ferran Torres is coming off arguably the greatest moment of his footballing career, one that will remain his forever.

The Spanish striker came off the bench against Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final and scored La Roja’s only goal to earn them their second star.

During the tournament, the 26-year-old was heavily linked with a potential move to PSG, but that seems to have fizzled out since the end of the World Cup.

Now, according to Santi Ovalle on Cadena SER, Barcelona are not preparing for Ferran Torres to leave this summer, with the club still counting on the forward for next season and planning to open renewal talks in September.

No exit request from Ferran

Ferran has not informed Barcelona of any desire to move away. The club’s position is equally clear: they want him to stay.

Nothing at this point suggests that PSG are close to getting this deal over the line. However, in the transfer market, things could change in an instant.

The important aspect here is that the Spaniard has less than 12 months left on his current deal at the club.

Barça will be keen to get the striker to extend his contract, as not doing so would see them run the risk of losing him for free next summer.

Renewal talks planned for September

The decision to wait until September suggests Barcelona want to separate contract discussions from the final weeks of the transfer market.

It could also be a financial move to ensure that his new contract is not counted in La Liga this season, thus reducing registration headaches.

Barça have used a similar approach previously to extend Frenkie de Jong’s deal after the new season started, and this seems no different.

Once the window is closed, both sides should have more clarity over Ferran’s role, the competition in attack and the minutes available under Hansi Flick.

A useful player in a demanding season

From Barcelona’s perspective, keeping Ferran makes sense. He offers flexibility across the front line, understands Flick’s demands and has shown that he can contribute goals without needing to be the central figure in the attack.

Ferran may not always be guaranteed a starting place, but his value comes from being able to cover several positions and maintain intensity when the squad rotates.

The Blaugrana will face a long season, and dependable attacking depth is essential. Selling him without a clear replacement could create another problem rather than solve one.

There should be no consideration of a sale for the Spanish World Cup hero this summer, and let us hope it remains that way.
