Barcelona 1-2 Paris Saint-Germain

Barcelona have lost for the first time this season, with Paris Saint-Germain emerging victorious in their eagerly-anticipated Champions League clash at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic.

It was an excellent start to proceedings from the Catalans, who asserted their dominance against Luis Enrique’s injury-hit side. Ferran Torres missed a golden chance to score the opener after an exceptional trivela pass from Lamine Yamal, but only a few minutes later, he made amends after tapping home from a Marcus Rashford cross.

It gave Barcelona a deserved lead, but it also woke PSG up. They were the better team for the remainder of the first team, and on 39 minutes, they got their reward by way of the equalising goal as a wonderful driving run from Nuno Mendes ended with teenage forward Senny Mayulu firing past Wojciech Szczesny from the edge of the box.

Barcelona came out in the second half determined to retake their lead, but just beyond the hour mark, they should have got their second goal of the evening. A clearance fell the way of Dani Olmo inside the penalty area, but his strike was blocked on the line by former Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi.

PSG also had chances to get the winner, and they came so close when former Valencia and Mallorca player Lee Kang-in dribbled away from a number of Barcelona players before firing his effort off the outside of Szczesny’s right post. And they did get the goal they desired in the 90th minute, with it coming from substitute Goncalo Ramos.

Barcelona will be very disappointed to lose

There will be disappointment from a Barcelona perspective to lose this one – not only because they had the lead, and also because PSG were without the likes of Marquinhos, Joao Neves, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele. However, it was a very impressive performance from the reigning champions, who were deserved winners.
