Barcelona insist they maintained full transparency with RFEF regarding Lamine Yamal | OneFootball

Barcelona have once again found themselves in the spotlight after new information surfaced regarding Lamine Yamal’s groin treatment and the communication between the club and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). 

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants insist they acted transparently and responsibly throughout the process.

The controversy began after Yamal, who has been dealing with a persistent groin problem since September, underwent a specialised treatment that led to his withdrawal from the national team squad. 

While some questioned whether Barça had informed the Federation beforehand, club sources maintain there was no wrongdoing and that the player’s well-being always came first.

What’s the story?

Following the match against Celta Vigo, Barcelona’s medical department contacted the Federation’s doctors on Sunday night, informing them that an external medical specialist would be visiting Yamal the following day to evaluate his condition more thoroughly. 

At that stage, the club was unaware that Dr. Schilders, a Belgian specialist, would recommend a radiofrequency treatment that would require a few days of rest.

Once the decision was made to proceed with the procedure, Barcelona promptly notified the Federation around 1 p.m. on Monday, explaining that the teenager would need four to five days of recovery.

In fact, the RFEF’s own statement later confirmed that they had been informed of the treatment before 2 p.m.

The delay that followed, however, was due to logistical issues rather than negligence. 

There is more to the story

As such, Dr Schilders had to travel to London shortly after performing the treatment, which delayed the delivery of his formal medical report. 

The document was completed and sent once he arrived in England, after which Barça immediately forwarded it to the Federation.

By that time, the report indicated that Yamal would require between seven and ten days of rest, prompting the national team to officially withdraw him from the squad the following day.

Despite the public debate, Barcelona’s priority was to protect their winger’s health, and every step taken was communicated transparently. 

The club believes it fulfilled its duty and sees no reason for criticism, confident that both Barça and the Federation ultimately share the same goal: ensuring the young star’s full recovery.
