Hansi Flick’s FC Barcelona in 2024/25 virtually guaranteed goals every time they played. Although they have not hit the same heights so far this campaign, they continue to be chance-creating machines, even on their not-so-great days.
Injuries have not allowed Flick to field his first-choice XI together this season, and the likes of Raphinha, Lewandowski, and Lamine Yamal have hardly shared the pitch. The trio were the protagonists in the attack last year.
According to Mundo Deportivo, despite the recent slump in form, Barcelona continue to lead all other teams in the goalscoring charts in the Champions League since Hansi Flick’s arrival. Even defending champions PSG are some way behind.
Barcelona have scored 52 goals in the Champions League under the German manager so far, with 43 in the 2024/25 season and 9 so far this year. PSG rank some way behind with 45 goals over the same period.
Arsenal have 42 and Real Madrid have 31, while last season’s finalists Inter Milan, who knocked Barcelona out of the competition, have 35. In terms of goalscoring numbers, no team in Europe holds a candle to the Catalan giants.
However, as evidenced last year, Barcelona’s less-than-desirable defensive record is not allowing them to reap the rewards of their prolific goalscoring. The Catalan club ships far too many goals for a club of their stature.
Flick will hope that the return of injured players allows him to address both attacking and defensive fragilities on display this season. Let’s wait and see how the team performs in the Champions League this time around.
