Former Barcelona player and manager Xavi Hernández has this weekend revealed his hopes of testing his managerial talents on the international stage over the years ahead.
This comes with the Spaniard eager to spearhead a country’s charge at a future World Cup, or other major tournament.
Xavi has for his part been out of work since being sent on his way by Joan Laporta and the Barcelona brass back in the summer of 2024.
The 46-year-old has been linked with the managerial hotseat at a whole host of clubs across Europe and beyond in the time since.
To date, however, Xavi has not found a job which he feels represents the next logical step in his career on the bench. And as alluded to above, a potential explanation as to why has now come to the fore.
Drawn on his future plans by the media (as cited by Fabrizio Romano) this weekend, the one-time midfield standout explained:
“My next step could be a national team. It would suit me, and I want that. I have family. A club wouldn’t allow me as much time with my family, I’ve got young children.
“I’m keen to take part as a coach in a World Cup, EURO, AFCON, an Asian Cup…”.
