FC Barcelona are fully focused on Sunday’s La Liga clash against Real Madrid, where they can be officially crowned as the champions even if they manage a draw on the night.

Leading up to the game, reports suggested that seasoned defender Andreas Christensen could be in line to receive his medical clearance and be available for the Clasico.

However, now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s coaching staff believe there is no point rushing Christensen back for the Clasico even though he is recovering well.

As such, the 30-year-old Danish centre-back could receive medical clearance for Barcelona’s subsequent match against Alaves, set to be played at Mendizorroza on 13 May.

Christensen suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in December 2025 after an unfortunate movement during training.

The former Chelsea star opted for conservative treatment in order to avoid surgery, with an expected recovery period of several months.

In recent weeks, the Danish defender has completed training sessions with positive sensations and without setbacks.

However, given his past fitness issues, no risks will be taken, and he will not be rushed for Sunday’s El Clasico.

If Barcelona beat Real Madrid and win the title this weekend, his recovery could coincide with matches carrying less pressure and intensity, increasing the likelihood of him receiving minutes on the pitch.

Christensen will hope to get some minutes under his belt in the final few matches of the season and make a stronger case for a renewal at Barcelona.
