Inter will have to patiently wait to learn whether Denzel Dumfries will be staying, as his rather feasible release clause, which amounts to €25M, is set to come into effect again later in the summer. A few teams are lining up to assess his level of interest in departing San Siro, Mediaset reports.
In particular, Liverpool and Barcelona have been poking around. The Reds are going through a deep retooling of their squad. Instead, the Blaugrana need to sell Jules Kounde before signing another right-back, but he has a few suitors.
Real Madrid are also keen on the Dutchman, as José Mourinho, who should be hired soon, covets him. Inter will try to sign Marco Palestra regardless of what happens with Dumfries. They have further uncertainty on the wings. On the other hand, Atalanta ask for at least €40M, so La Beneamata has to weigh that against addressing other roles.
The youngster can play on both wings. The Scudetto winners will most likely need another man unrelated to the future of the 30-year-old. Luis Henrique flopped this year but is generating interest, Carlos Augusto has so far rejected a new contract, and Matteo Darmian has reached the end of the line.
His deal and its release clause are one of their rare faux pas by their management in recent years, but they haven’t paid the price for it yet. All in all, it’s a bit surprising that he’s still in town. His season was nothing special, mostly because of injuries, and he’s not getting any younger. Still, the figure is below market value, and his exit would force them to invest significantly in the role.
