Barcelona, the city council and the Generalitat have submitted their dossier to UEFA to bid for the 2029 Champions League final at the Spotify Camp Nou. UEFA will not decide until early 2027.

The club said in a statement that the file is endorsed by the Spanish Football Federation, led by Rafael Louzán. It added that the submission covers UEFA’s technical, contractual and institutional criteria, along with guarantees on the organisational capacity of the stadium and the city.

Work at the ground continues. The third tier is due to open in phases this season, with construction on the roof set to begin in a year. Limak, the Turkish contractor overseeing the project, plans to finish the stadium by late 2028.

If the timeline holds, the Camp Nou would be ready for the showpiece to return for the first time since 1998-99, when Manchester United beat Bayern Munich 2-1 in stoppage time. A decade earlier, in 1989, Arrigo Sacchi’s Milan defeated Steaua Bucharest 4-0, also at the Camp Nou.

The revamped venue is undergoing a major transformation intended to place it among the sport’s leading arenas. The project envisages a capacity of about 105,000, which would be the largest in Europe.

Barcelona, alongside the city council and the Generalitat, also intend to pursue the 2030 World Cup final, in direct competition with the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid.
