Barcelona have taken another important step in the redevelopment of the Spotify Camp Nou, with work now advancing into a decisive phase ahead of the summer.

According to a report from AS, the club is currently focusing on the construction of the third tier as well as the development of the VIP sections, which are two key components of the long-term project.

As per the outlet, Work on the third tier has already moved into the conditioning and waterproofing stage.

This process is essential before further structural elements can be added and ensures that the foundation is ready for the next phase.

The timeline remains on track, with seat installation expected to begin in the summer. Once that begins, the scale of the new stadium will become much more visible.

Focus on VIP areas

As such, Barcelona are placing strong emphasis on the VIP areas.

These premium sections are central to the club’s financial strategy, as the new design aims to maximise revenue through high-end hospitality, which is expected to play a major role in stabilising the club’s finances.

Meanwhile, there have already been visible changes in capacity. On March 15, during the presidential election period, Barcelona introduced the 1C licence during a match against Sevilla.

This allowed the opening of the North Stand and increased the stadium’s capacity to around 62,000 spectators.

There are some issues

As such, some issues still need to be addressed, including the improvement in visibility around the goal areas, which remains a work in progress.

The situation regarding the Supporters’ Section is also yet to be fully resolved as well.

At present, only the original supporter groups are being allowed access, with attendance limited to around 800 people.

The planned capacity for this section is higher, but the club is still finalising the allocation process under the new regulations before expanding it.
