Having wrapped up 2025 on a positive note, Barcelona fans will be excitedly looking forward to the January transfer window.
The winter market provides Barça the opportunity to replenish their ranks in defence, which has struggled with injuries and the departure of Inigo Martinez.
The recent injury to Andreas Christensen has only intensified calls for new signings as Barcelona are really stretched thin when it comes to defensive options.
However, a recent report from MARCA suggests Barcelona have made a final decision not to enter the market in the upcoming January transfer window.
This effectively means the club won’t be signing any new players in January as they simply do not have the necessary means to do so.

The report points out that Barça are not in an economic position to sign new players due to the Financial Fair Play regulations.
With the club yet to comply with the 1:1 regulations, they face difficulties registering the new signing, even though La Liga regulations will allow them to utilise 80% of Christensen’s salary margin to register the new player.
That rule is contingent upon the fact that the player must be ruled out for a period of at least four months.
In any case, the report indicates that Barcelona are not too interested in the options available in the January transfer market and are therefore willing to wait until summer for defensive reinforcements.
Until then, the club will rely heavily on Ronald Araujo, who is expected to return to action for the Catalan derby at the start of January.
Coach Hansi Flick will also count on the versatility of players like Marc Casado, Gerard Martin and Eric Garcia, all of whom have been of great service to the team this season.
