With the transfer window coming to a close in early September, Barcelona have their task cut out in this final week.

While the focus is on signing a new striker, the club are also looking for investments in the defensive space, as the team clearly needs another centre-back, at the very least.

Barcelona have been linked with moves for Aymeric Laporte and Castello Lukeba recently. Another option that has come to the table is Goncalo Inacio.

As reported by Diario SPORT, Barcelona may emerge as a dark horse to sign Inacio in this final week of the summer transfer window.

A Portuguese international, Inacio has been linked with a move away from Sporting CP this summer, with the centre-back having a release clause worth €60 million.

Inacio was recently benched during Sporting’s recent game against FC Alverca, which many believe is a sign the player may leave the club.

AC Milan are among the clubs interested in the services of Inacio, especially with new coach Ruben Amorim pushing for a transfer.

Barcelona have multiple reasons to believe they can sign Goncalo Inacio from the clutches of AC Milan this summer.

For one, the Catalans are okay with meeting Inacio’s €60 million release clause. On top of that, Deco has good connections in Portugal and was in Lisbon last week.

Although Inacio may not have been a subject of discussion, Barcelona have the resources to pull off a deal for the Portuguese international.

However, a lot may depend on Barcelona’s pursuit of a new striker. Only after the Blaugrana sign a new forward, the club can make a move for a new centre-back.

And that is where Inacio could prove to be a handy option given his status as a left-footed ball-playing centre-back, making him an ideal defensive partner for Pau Cubarsi in the new season.
