Barcelona midfielder Gavi has publicly shown his support for a young Barça fan at the centre of a recent controversy.

Gavi is someone who regularly shares his thoughts on social media, which made his response particularly notable. 

The controversy followed the circulation of footage from the area around Martinez Valero before Elche’s match against Barcelona. 

The images showed the minor being restrained by several police officers while on his way to the stadium carrying an estelada, sparking a strong reaction among sections of the Barcelona fanbase.

The incident has also prompted a response from Barcelona at an institutional level, with club president Joan Laporta among those who have addressed the matter.

Responding to the Penya Barcelonista de Sant Antoni’s publication connected to the young fan, the Barcelona midfielder used four emojis: two flexed arms, followed by a blue heart and a red heart, representing the Catalonia colours.

Although the player did not add a written statement, his response was interpreted as a gesture of strength and support for the minor.

For Gavi, who generally keeps a relatively low profile on social platforms, the decision to publicly engage with the issue stands out. 

This is because the midfielder is the first player from Barcelona’s senior dressing room to make a public gesture connected to the controversy.
