It has been over a year since Marc Bernal last played a game for FC Barcelona. The 18-year-old midfield prodigy, making his third official first-team appearance in a La Liga game vs Rayo Vallecano, suffered an ACL injury with associated meniscus damage.

Having undergone surgery, the teenager has worked hard on his recovery over the past year and is finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Indeed, Bernal is now working intensively to secure medical clearance soon. And earlier today, Barcelona posted updates on social media highlighting his progress in rehabilitation, noting that the player “is training really hard to come back as soon as possible.”

This has been interpreted as a strong sign that Catalans’ medical staff could give him the green light following the international break.

While the La Masia graduate has been working with the rest of the group for some time now, the coaching staff has opted not to take any unnecessary risks by rushing him back.

But, everything seems to indicate that Bernal could make his return to the squad list for the game against Valencia right after the ongoing international break.

It is worth noting that Bernal has already been registered as a first-team player in La Liga and will wear the No. 22 shirt, which was confirmed when Barcelona’s official Champions League squad list was revealed this week.

Prior to his injury, Bernal impressed in the three matches he played last season, and manager Hansi Flick has high hopes for him to become an important figure in the team.

However, as mentioned earlier, no risks will be taken with the youngster’s recovery, and the plan is to ease him back gradually to avoid any relapse.
