According to the Mirror (h/t SPORT), FC Barcelona midfielder Gavi has rejected the possibility of joining Manchester United, despite the English club’s interest in recent days.

The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their midfield, but the player’s response has been clear and unequivocal: he does not want to leave Barcelona.

£35 million offer from Manchester United

As per the report, Manchester United’s interest in Gavi is not new. The team managed by Michael Carrick identified the Barcelona star as one of their targets as part of their midfield rebuild.

The Red Devils have already invested around £85 million on Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, but are still looking for a third midfield reinforcement. That is where Gavi entered the picture.

Manchester United were prepared to pay £35 million, around €41 million, for the La Masia graduate.

Gavi closes the door on United

However, as things stand, the midfielder has no intention of changing clubs.

Gavi has made it clear that his intention is to remain at Barcelona and that he has no interest in moving to Old Trafford.

The academy graduate believes he still has plenty to prove at Barcelona and can regain an important role under Hansi Flick. For that reason, despite Manchester United’s proposal, his decision is to stay at the club.

Gavi joined Barcelona at 11 years old and has become one of La Masia’s most prominent products. His commitment to the club remains unchanged after a difficult season, which was disrupted by a serious knee injury that kept him out for six months.

Eager to impress

The arrival of Rodri has increased competition in midfield. Barcelona now have more options in the centre of the pitch, and Flick will have to manage a squad containing several players capable of operating in those positions.

But the Spanish international’s arrival does not change Gavi’s situation. Flick trusts the academy graduate, and the player wants to respond on the pitch.

His objective is to regain his importance in the team and prove that he can play a significant role in the project.
