Barcelona monitor Estevao situation at Chelsea amid long-term intetrest

Barcelona are monitoring the situation of Estevao Willian at Chelsea ahead of a potential move.

Estevao has struggled for minutes since the arrival of Xabi Alonso as head coach, with the winger yet to start a game in the Premier League this season.

The 19-year-old shone during his debut campaign in West London, where he scored eight goals in 36 appearances, but has failed to earn a regular role under Alonso.

The summer signing of Morgan Rogers and competition from Cole Palmer have limited his minutes. Estevao intends to remain patient at Chelsea for now, but will consider his options should the situation not change.

Spanish outlet AS are reporting that Barcelona are among the clubs monitoring events. Barcelona are long-term admirers of Estevao, with glowing reports from his time at Palmeiras, but did not enter the race to sign him due to financial restraints and the emergence of Lamine Yamal. However, Estevao is understood to see his long-term future in a more central role, which could attract Barcelona to the table.

According to AS, there are also disagreements between Estevao and management over his future. Chelsea consider the teenager to be a wide option, while Estevao is reluctant to ‘bulk up’ further to aid adaption to the Premier League, amid concerns he may lose agility and explosiveness.

Barcelona sporting director Deco is remaining attentive to the situation should an opportunity arise. Chelsea paid Palmeiras an initial £29m to sign Estevao in 2024, though the deal could rise to around £57m with add-ons.
