FC Barcelona have benefited from having a fully fit and in-form Frenkie de Jong since the start of 2025. The Dutchman has formed an enviable partnership with Pedri in midfield, and the duo is considered the best double pivot going around.

Frenkie has also grown by leaps and bounds as a leader, often starting with the armband while Ter Stegen is sidelined and Ronald Araujo’s form is far from ideal. He has done very well in this regard and has managed to win over the fanbase.

The only persisting concern for the 28-year-old has been his contractual situation, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season. However, for his part, Frenkie has reiterated his desire to stay at the club on more than one occasion.

Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona are progressing well in contract negotiations with the player’s camp, and there is optimism on all sides to get the deal done. Frenkie has been offered a three-year deal that would see him stay at the club until 2029.

From the Dutch player’s side, there is complete commitment to continue wearing the Blaugrana, and he is happy with the terms offered by the club for an extension. Only the final details need to be sorted on this front.

Frenkie’s performances in the past year have been on a different level. He is one of the very best in the world in his position, and his putting pen to paper on a new contract would be a huge coup for Hansi Flick’s side.

Let us hope the talks progress smoothly and the club’s vice-captain signs on the dotted line sooner rather than later. It will be a big day for FC Barcelona, and let us wait and see how it plays out.
