Barcelona new boy Gabriel Jesus has impressive record against Real Madrid | OneFootball

Over the weekend, Barcelona reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus on a permanent deal. The 29-year-old, who has been surplus to requirements in North London, will jet into Catalonia in the coming hours ahead of joining before the summer transfer window closes at 11:59pm CEST on Tuesday.

Jesus will arrive to add striker depth to Hansi Flick’s squad. Barcelona have been left without a natural number nine since Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres left the club earlier in the summer, which is why they have moved to secure the services of the 5x Premier League winner. But they hope he is not the only centre forward to join, with Julian Alvarez still being waited for at this stage.

Jesus is likely to be a rotational option for Barcelona irrespective of whether Alvarez joins or not, but despite having a wretched injury record in recent years, he could be a very good squad player for the Catalans. In particular, he could be one to call upon in El Clasico, given his impressive record against Real Madrid.

Jesus has scored in three of his four matches vs Real Madrid

As highlighted by MD, Jesus has played against Real Madrid on four occasions, all of which came as a Manchester City player. He scored in both legs of the Premier League side’s 4-2 aggregate victory over Los Blancos in the 2019-20 Champions League round of 16, while he also provided an assist in the second leg.

He would make it three goals in three matches two years later when Man City won 4-3 in Manchester in the first leg of their semi-final tie in the 2021-22 Champions League, although he failed to net when the Cityzens lost 3-1 (AET) in the return leg at the Bernabeu.

Barcelona will hope that Jesus can make a similar impression on Real Madrid during his time at the Spotify Camp Nou. If he is able to recapture his best form from his Man City days, he could be one of their best signings in recent times.
