FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta struck an optimistic, celebratory tone during the club’s traditional Christmas lunch with journalists, held at the new Spotify Camp Nou rather than Auditori 1899.

As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he spoke about the return to the home stadium and what it meant to him and the club. He said:

“We have returned home; we can get an idea of what the Spotify Camp Nou will look like when it is finished.”

Ahead of an election year, Laporta slyly plugged the work of his board. He said:

“We are here because we were elected to restore the club’s economy, its prestige, to have a new stadium… We have already returned home with 45,000 spectators. We hope to reach 62,000 as soon as possible. It was a collective dream, and now it is a reality.”

The president then heaped praise on sporting director Deco’s work, whose contributions to the club continue to be debated. He said:

“The work of Deco and the sporting committee has been fundamental. La Masia had to be the centre of the project. We like the formula that combines La Masia players with players from other football cultures.”

Looking back at the club’s sporting achievements, he proudly noted:

“We have won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, and two Super Cups. Last season, with a treble, was historic. This has excited the Barça fanbase. We culés are happy when we win — and when we win while playing well.”

Laporta closed with a hopeful toast. He continued:

“We want to keep delivering good news — and that it comes from the Spotify Camp Nou, because that will mean we are playing well and winning trophies.”

Laporta continues to build castles in his ambition for Barcelona. Whether they are just in the air or actually translate into success is something only time can answer. For now, let us hope the Catalan club continues to strengthen their position as leaders of La Liga.
