Barcelona president pleased with the direction team is heading in – ‘We are happy when we win playing well’ | OneFootball

Joan Laporta was present at the customary Christmas lunch with journalists, this time at the Spotify Camp Nou premises.

During his address, the Barcelona president talked about Deco’s work at the club as well as the success of La Masia.

Laporta on returning to Camp Nou

First and foremost, Laporta did not forget to gloat about Barcelona’s return to Spotify Camp Nou and how significant it could be for the club.

“We’re back home, and we can get a sense of what this Spotify Camp Nou will look like when it’s finished,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Despite being presented with an excellent opportunity to talk about his candidature in next year’s Barcelona president election, Laporta took the moment to praise the support staff that made the return to Camp Nou possible.

“We are here because we were elected to recover the club’s finances, its prestige, and to have a new stadium,” he said.

“We have already returned home with 45,000 spectators. We hope to have 62,000 as soon as possible. It was a collective dream, and now it is a reality,” he added.

Laporta, who recently branded the Negreira case as a smear campaign against Barcelona, went on to talk about Deco and his important contribution to the club as the sporting director.

While mentioning Deco, Laporta also talked about the success of La Masia, which has contributed vastly to the club’s success.

“The work of Deco and the sporting committee has been fundamental. La Masia had to be the heart of the project. We like the formula that combines players from La Masia with players from other footballing cultures,” the president said.

“We’ve won two league titles, two cups, and two Super Cups. Last season, with a treble, was historic. This has Barcelona fans excited. We Barça fans are happy when we win, and when we win playing well,” he affirmed.

Laporta talked about the women’s football team as well and even went beyond football to highlight the success of Barcelona teams in other sports.

“We’re doing a good job, which gives us the strength to continue. We remain a multi-sport club. We’re achieving a lot in women’s football, with three Champions League titles,” he said.

“In handball, we’re world champions. We’ve managed to revive the basketball program. We’ve made changes, and we hope the section will continue to grow. Xavi Pascual has us excited. Futsal also has us excited; hockey has won four league titles. Let’s hope this continues.”

Finally, Laporta sent a message to fans, vowing to keep winning for the supporters and bringing in good news.

“We want to continue bringing good news. And for it to be generated at Spotify Camp Nou, which will mean we’re playing well and winning titles,” he concluded.
