WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Everton this morning.
The 21-year-old Spanish youth international defender initially joined Everton on loan from Barcelona in the second half of the 2024/2025 season. She then signed for The Toffees on a permanent basis last summer. Fernández started all 22 matches for Everton in the Barclays Women’s Super League last season, scoring two goals along the way. She was one of the club’s most consistent performers throughout the campaign.
Barcelona have now triggered a buy-back clause in the player’s contract and she has returned to Spain 18 months on from her initial exit.
Fernández initially joined Barcelona from Girona in 2018. She spent time in the club’s youth system before moving into the Barcelona B side. The defender then made her debut for the first team during the 2022/2023 season. Fernández went on to play 29 matches for Barca at first team level in which she scored two goals.
Fernández’s return to Barcelona will be much welcomed by the club. There have been a number of high-profile exits during the close season and she will add quality to the squad.
