Barcelona appear to be closing in on yet another important piece of long-term squad planning, as a new report from Mundo Deportivo reveals that the club have reached an agreement in principle to renew the contract of Eric Garcia.
The centre-back, who has developed into one of Hansi Flick’s most trusted players this season, is now just steps away from extending his future at the club he grew up in.
According to the report, negotiations between the club and the defender have been ongoing for several weeks, but both sides have now aligned on the main terms of the agreement.
Garcia had interest from elsewhere, with PSG putting forward a tempting proposal. However, the defender has opted to stay at Barcelona, where he feels most at home.
For him, the environment, the dressing room chemistry, and the trust placed in him by the coaching staff have all been decisive in choosing continuity over change.
Barcelona’s technical department views him as a key part of the club’s long-term plans, not just defensively but as a potential leader.

As has been highlighted internally, his professionalism and consistency have made him a genuine candidate for future captaincy.
His renewal, which will tie him to Barça until 2030, is described as being in its final phase. It comes at the perfect moment too, as Garcia has been delivering standout performances.
This season, the former Manchester City man has become one of the most reliable performers in the squad. No matter where Flick uses him, his level rarely drops.
And as multiple times in the past, Flick does not want to lose him “under any circumstances.”
With the renewal nearing its final signature, Barcelona are securing a player who represents both present stability and future leadership.
