Barcelona’s pursuit of Karim Adeyemi has taken a major step forward and now appears to be at an advanced stage.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t SPORT), the German forward has reached a full agreement with Barcelona over the length of his contract and salary. The 24-year-old is expected to pen a five-year deal with the Catalans.

The player has also informed Borussia Dortmund that he wants the club to negotiate his transfer exclusively with Barcelona and to do so as soon as possible.

Barcelona have already submitted an initial offer for the winger, and there is growing optimism that an agreement between the two clubs could be reached quickly. Dortmund are open to selling Adeyemi after failing to convince him to sign a new contract.

A long-standing desire

Adeyemi has never hidden his ambition to play for Barcelona. In the past, he publicly expressed both his admiration for the Catalan club and his desire to wear the Blaugrana shirt.

To help make that dream a reality, he entrusted his career to agent Jorge Mendes. The Portuguese superagent also attempted to bring Adeyemi to Barcelona last summer.

However, the move ultimately fell through because of the club’s salary cap restrictions and doubts surrounding the player’s form at the time.

Now, circumstances have changed, and both player and club believe the transfer is finally possible. As such, Adeyemi is doing everything he can to ensure he does not miss this opportunity.

Dortmund ready to sell

Back in February, Adeyemi informed Borussia Dortmund that he had no intention of renewing his contract, which currently runs until 2027.

The German club had offered him a long-term extension that included gradual salary increases, but the proposal failed to convince the player.

This spring, Dortmund officially withdrew that offer and made him available for transfer, provided a suitable bid arrived.

Despite expectations, no significant offers emerged from the Premier League, allowing Jorge Mendes to position Barcelona as the leading contender for his signature.

Barcelona hold stronger position

With the situation now clear, Barcelona appear to have considerable leverage in negotiations.

Dortmund need to sell Adeyemi, while the player has made it clear that Barcelona is the only destination he is willing to accept.

Although the winger is valued at around €40 million, the final transfer fee could be lower. There is also the possibility that one or more players could be included as part of the deal.

Time is working against Dortmund, as every passing day without an agreement risks reducing the player’s market value.

At 24 years old, Adeyemi fits Barcelona’s long-term planning. The club has proposed a lengthy contract, allowing the transfer fee to be amortized over several years and making the operation more manageable from a financial perspective.

The structure of the deal, designed with the assistance of Mendes, is also expected to ensure that Adeyemi’s wages fit comfortably within Barcelona’s salary limits, making the transfer attractive from an economic standpoint as well as a sporting one.

The only remaining hurdle is reaching a final agreement between Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund. Given the current state of negotiations, that breakthrough could arrive in the near future.
