Following the cancellation of the proposal to play their La Liga fixture against Villarreal in the US, FC Barcelona were exploring the possibility of playing a friendly in Peru in the month of December.
While it would fetch a revenue of around €7-8 million for the Catalans, recent reports suggested that there were hurdles in the plan going ahead due to multiple factors.
However, now, according to SPORT, Barcelona have received a proposal to play a friendly match in Morocco.
The offer reached the club’s offices in recent days, although it is not currently being seriously considered. Head coach Hansi Flick will have the final say on the matter.
As per the report, the proposal, under review by Barcelona, suggests that the mid-season friendly would only take place if the Catalans were to be eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Champions League or an earlier stage.
Should the team advance further, which is the expected objective, the friendly would be postponed until after the season ends. However, club sources told the outlet that the idea is “very remote” and not under serious consideration at this time.

These types of matches provide immediate revenue, something highly valued by the board, as they help balance the finances and comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
Within the dressing room, players understand the financial rationale but are less enthusiastic about the prospect.
After an intense fixture schedule, travelling a long distance to play a single 90-minute match is not their preferred scenario.
Nevertheless, Barcelona continue to encourage flexibility, as the income generated from such matches can significantly impact the budget available for the next transfer window.
Morocco represents a convenient destination, with a strong following of Barça supporters and located only about an hour and a half by plane from the Catalan capital.
However, the sporting schedule and technical considerations take priority. While the proposal has indeed reached the offices and has not been completely ruled out, at this time, there is no full consensus and no firm commitment to go ahead with the plan.
