The summer transfer window has heated up significantly for FC Barcelona over the last few days. The Catalans have seemingly stepped up their efforts to sign the Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, with Deco recently travelling to Madrid to meet with his agent. Meanwhile, they are now also favorites to land the Manchester City star Rodri Hernandez, and are already in negotiations with the Premier League side after having obtained the player’s nod.
Meanwhile, the Blaugranes are also looking to obtain funds from sales of some of their players who are not going to feature too prominently in Hansi Flick’s plans next season, most notably Marc Casado. Furthermore, it seems like they are also in line to get some income from one of their former players.
This former player is Jan Virgili, who joined Mallorca from Barcelona last summer, with the latter club retaining a 40% sell-on right. According to Mundo Deportivo, his transfer to Club Brugge has now been finalized as the Belgian side paid his €12 million release clause. Thus, the Blaugranes will get €4.8 million from this transfer.
His release clause was lowered this summer as Mallorca were relegated to the second division last season. Had the Balearic team stayed in La Liga, his release clause would have stood at €30 million.
Last summer, the Catalans had sold Virgili to Mallorca for €3.5 million, and including the €4.8 million they have got from his latest move, Barcelona have earned €8.3 million in total for a player who did not even make his debut for their first team, but impressed with his performances with the reserve team.
Jan Virgili is expected to sign a contract till 2030 with Club Brugge, and hopefully, he will enjoy a lot of success in this new chapter of his career. Meanwhile, Barcelona have obtained a significant chunk of money from this sale, which can come in handy for them in the transfer market.
