Barcelona have moved to quash suggestions of a fresh UEFA investigation into the Negreira case after Real Madrid sent a dossier to UEFA. The club said in a statement that no new disciplinary file has been opened.

UEFA has received Madrid’s documents concerning payments to former refereeing official José María Enríquez Negreira. Barcelona argue the matter remains within the investigation launched in 2023, when two inspectors were appointed.

Madrid have called the allegations extraordinarily serious and urged maximum speed in resolving the case. Barcelona downplayed the latest submission, framing UEFA’s notice as an acknowledgement of receipt and an evaluation within the already active procedure.

They emphasised that UEFA’s language refers to a review in progress, not the opening, reopening or reactivation of any case, and that there is no pronouncement on the material’s merits. In their view, pressure from their rivals does not alter the legal picture.

Barcelona maintain they have cooperated fully and have not yet been given access to Madrid’s documents. Investigators have made no new requests and have not forwarded Madrid’s complaint, and the club will respond if that changes.

The club add that the outcome is likely to be shaped by parallel criminal proceedings in Spain, and that the UEFA file remains subject to that process. Separately, a Madrid court has set a 25 November 2026 conciliation hearing in Barcelona’s defamation case against Florentino Perez over claims of systemic corruption and stolen La Liga titles, in which the club seek a full public retraction.
