UEFA confirmed that it has received a substantial set of documents from Real Madrid for its ongoing review of Barcelona in the Negreira case, and its ethics and disciplinary inspectors will assess them.

Real Madrid issued a statement portraying the update as confirmation that the investigation continues into payments made over the past two decades. It pressed for swift progress, citing concerns for competition integrity and trust in refereeing.

Barcelona rejected that reading, calling the note a simple acknowledgement of receipt of Madrid's submission. The club maintains no new case has been opened or reopened, and the probe that began in 2023 remains active, with all requests met.

The UEFA communication refers to an investigation and a review in progress, and does not announce the opening, reopening or reactivation of any file.

Barcelona remain relaxed, contending UEFA will first await a decision from Spain's courts before acting. In their view, without a domestic conviction UEFA would lack the power to sanction.

They also point out UEFA has renewed the club's licence for European competition each year. Investigators have issued no new requests and have not forwarded Madrid's complaint, and the club will respond if and when required.
