The attack and the defense have, expectedly, remained the main focus of FC Barcelona as they work to strengthen their team ahead of the 2026-27 season. The Catalans have already signed Anthony Gordon, and are going to go all in for Julian Alvarez for the offense, while for the backline, they are in negotiations with Al-Hilal for Joao Cancelo, and also being linked with several other players.

Meanwhile, there is already an overbooking in midfield, and this is not an area where more additions are expected this summer. Still, the Blaugranes are being linked with some midfielders, including the Valencia star Javi Guerra.

According to SPORT, although Barcelona are not seeing him as a priority for now, they still have a plan in place for his signing. In this regard, they are looking to offer him a 6-year contract to show confidence in him and to tie him down if the possibility of signing him, either this summer or next year, arises.

Deco likes the Spaniard, in particular for his ability to cover a lot of ground, good ball control, team work, and ability to crash the opposition box. He also believes Guerra’s price, quality, and growth potential makes him a highly suitable candidate for the Barcelona midfield, especially if one of their current midfielders ends up leaving.

Regarding the price, although not too low, it is still quite affordable when seen in the parameters of the current market. His release clause is set to remain at €40 million in July, but would rise up to €60 million in the latter days of the summer transfer window. The Blaugranes believe this figure can decrease further with the addition of some of their current players in a deal.

In fact, Javi Guerra’s agents already visited Barcelona and met with Deco a few days ago. For now, the Catalans’ priority remains Julian Alvarez, but it would not be a surprise if they ended up landing the Valencia star as well, even though his current club has no intentions of letting him leave.
