Sergi Dominguez was expected to start in Barcelona Atletic’s clash against Ourense on Saturday, partnering Andres Cuenca in the heart of defence.

However, during the warm-up, Dominguez felt discomfort, prompting coach Albert Sanchez to make a late change by bringing Edu Sanchez into the starting eleven.

This led to intense panic in the Barça Atletic setup, with many fearing yet another defender may have picked up an injury.

No reason to panic

However, the decision to replace Dominguez was precautionary, as Sanchez explained in the post-match press conference: “Sergi is fine; he felt discomfort during the warm-up, and we didn’t want to take any risks, but there is nothing serious.”

Dominguez, who is increasingly integrated into the first-team dynamic under Hansi Flick, has impressed the head coach with his potential.

Flick, aware of Dominguez’s promise, also saw the wisdom in taking no chances with the young defender.

The situation was more concerning for Andres Cuenca, who played from the start but had to be substituted in the 66th minute after sustaining a right calf injury.

Alvaro Cortes replaced him, and as per Diario SPORT, tests scheduled for Sunday will determine whether Cuenca has suffered a significant injury. If confirmed, Cuenca could join Barcelona Atletic’s growing injury list.

This list has recently seen the return of Toni Fernandez and Noah Darvich but still includes key players such as Raul Dacosta, Dani Rodriguez, Aleix Garrido, Diego Percan, Mamadou Mbacke, and Joan Anaya.

While there is a certain level of concern, the club maintains a calm approach, focusing on the long-term fitness and availability of its players.
