FC Barcelona have decided not to pursue a move for Harry Kane, concluding that signing the Bayern Munich striker is not a realistic option this summer, reports MARCA.

The club’s top priority in the transfer market remains the signing of a new centre-forward following Robert Lewandowski’s departure.

Replacing the Polish striker is considered essential after several seasons in which he consistently delivered around 30 goals per campaign.

Although Kane’s name has recently been linked with Barcelona, the Catalan club have now ruled out the possibility.

Julian Alvarez remains the main target

The primary reason behind the club ending their pursuit of Kane is that Julian Alvarez continues to be Barcelona’s first-choice candidate.

The operation remains difficult because Atletico Madrid are unwilling to sell one of their biggest stars to a direct domestic rival. Even so, sporting director Deco is preparing what is expected to be Barcelona’s final push for the Argentine.

Inside the club, there is still optimism that Atleti may eventually be persuaded to negotiate, although no significant progress is expected until after the World Cup concludes.

Internal solutions remain an option

Barcelona are also preparing for the possibility that a deal for Alvarez ultimately proves impossible.

If negotiations collapse, one option would be to avoid signing a new striker altogether and instead rely on players already in Hansi Flick’s squad.

Among those capable of filling the centre-forward role are Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres and even Lamine Yamal in certain tactical setups.

Kane was explored but considered unfeasible

The alternative would be to return to the market in search of another elite striker. That is where Harry Kane entered the conversation.

Following his outstanding season with Bayern Munich and England, Barcelona explored the possibility of signing the 32-year-old.

Initial enquiries were made several weeks ago and repeated more recently in case the pursuit of Alvarez became increasingly complicated.

However, the club quickly concluded that the operation would be extremely difficult. After all, Bayern Munich have no desire to sell one of their most influential players.

The only realistic scenario would mirror Robert Lewandowski’s departure from Bayern four years ago, requiring Kane himself to publicly push for an exit. At this stage, the England captain has shown no intention of doing so, unlike Alvarez.

On the contrary, the striker is expected to finalise discussions over an improved contract with the Bundesliga champions in the near future.

Given Bayern’s firm position and Kane’s willingness to remain in Munich, Barcelona have decided not to pursue the transfer any further and have officially removed him from their list of realistic options.
