Barcelona set for talks with midfield prodigy to improve his contract | OneFootball

Barcelona are blessed with some of the world’s best players in midfield with Pedri and Frenkie de Jong representing the creme-de-la-creme of the sport.

Rodri’s imminent arrival, needless to say, will only add to that quality and make Barcelona’s midfield stacked beyond imagination.

After all, the club also have some of the highest rated young players in the position with Marc Bernal leading the way.

The youngster enjoyed a steady and positive return from injury last season, and the upcoming campaign has largely been expected to be a breakout season for him.

Contract improvement in negotiation

As reported by ESPN in a recent update, Barcelona have scheduled a meeting with Bernal and his representatives in the coming days to discuss and improve his contractual terms.

The youngster only signed a new renewal with the club last September and is bound to the club until 2030. His release clause stands at a whopping €500 million and his future is thus secure from a paperwork standpoint.

Bernal, however, was promised that the terms of his renewal would be reviewed at the end of the season and the Catalans intend to live up to the deal. They will thus look to cut the player a better salary.

A key pillar for the future

While Barcelona may have the world’s best players at their disposal ahead of the new season, Deco and Co. continue to see Bernal as a long-term bet who can carry the department and lead the team in the long run.

He is seen as an untouchable player by both Deco and Joan Laporta, and Barcelona’s prompt attention to his salary situation is directly triggered by interest in Bernal from England, Germany and Italy.

With Frenkie de Jong injured for the opening phase of the season, Bernal will have his share of minutes and opportunities to prove his worth.

Before that, the club must make him feel valued and deflect all external interest in the player.
