FC Barcelona are going into the final few days of the summer transfer window with a clear gap left to be filled in their squad, that of a center-forward, as Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres both left the Blaugrana team this summer.
The Catalans have been trying to sign the Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez for this role throughout this summer, but have remained unsuccessful in their pursuit so far. Meanwhile, the player himself is also pushing for a move, as he desires to play in the Barcelona jersey.
As things stand, the player and the Colchonero club are in quite a visible stand-off, and the forward’s position at the Madrid club has become quite difficult. Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona continue to monitor developments taking place in the Spanish capital, and are clear that they will go to the very end with Alvarez, and if they are unable to land him, they will rely on in-house solutions for the new season.
The latest development regarding the Argentine star has been his liking of a social media post in which a user showed him in a Barcelona jersey. Before that, he was booed by Atletico Madrid fans during the game against Villarreal, and this booing continued as Alvarez made his way to the dressing room while the rest of his team remained on the pitch to greet the fans. The Colchonero club later revealed that they themselves had asked the player to take such a course of action.
Thus, all the involved parties remain entrenched in their positions as the summer transfer window draws to a close. For their part, Barcelona are valuing the efforts of Julian Alvarez to ensure a move to their team, and will try till the very end to help him realize his dream, even if they have to go into the next season without a natural first-team center-forward.
