A member of the attacking ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona on Saturday failed to take his chance to convince Hansi Flick of his readiness to take over penalty responsibility for the club.

The player in question? Ferran Torres.

Frontman Ferran was for his part in from the off this evening, as Spain locked horns with Georgia in a World Cup qualifying fixture.

This comes fresh off a fine start to the campaign for the former Manchester City man at club level.

And as alluded to above, on the half-hour mark in Alicante, Ferran was afforded a golden opportunity to add his name to the scoresheet.

As much came after Spain were awarded a spot-kick.

The 25-year-old’s ensuing effort, however, proved a weak one, comfortably kept out by Giorgi Mamardashvili.

And as much will no doubt have been taken full note of by the coaching staff back in Barcelona.

The subject of the Blaugrana’s designated penalty taker has returned to the forefront of the headlines this week, after Robert Lewandowski missed a crucial spot-kick in a La Liga defeat at the hands of Sevilla.

After Ferran was handed the chance to put his name forward as a candidate on Saturday, however, the Valencian fluffed his lines.
