Barcelona star Marc-André ter Stegen could be afforded his first appearance of the term this coming week, in the Copa del Rey.

This comes owing to the latest developments in Hansi Flick’s squad on Saturday.

Barcelona are primed to return to action in short order, when they play host to Osasuna in a La Liga matchup.

The Blaugrana unveiled their matchday squad for the fixture this morning, with a fresh absence having been confirmed in the form of Wojciech Szczęsny.

The Pole, it has since been revealed, was left out for the day owing to a sudden bout of illness:

Following today’s action, Barcelona are set to return to the pitch once again in just three days’ time, kicking the club’s Copa del Rey campaign into gear in a meeting with minnows Guadalajara.

And should Szczęsny not have recovered in time for as much, the door could well be opened for a forgotten Blaugrana star to take advantage.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘Ter Stegen is an important step in his recovery process and could have his first minutes if Szczęsny does not recover in time and the coach does not want to risk Joan García.’
