Barcelona now know their opponents for the round of 32 of this season’s Copa del Rey, having been drawn against Club Deportivo Guadalajara – a side currently competing in Primera Federacion, Group 1.

The tie will see the Blaugrana travel to the modest yet historic Estadio Pedro Escartin in Guadalajara, where Pere Marti’s team will welcome one of the giants of Spanish football.

Who are Club Deportivo Guadalajara?

Notably, Guadalajara arrive in this stage of the competition after overcoming Cacereno and AD Ceuta in the earlier rounds.

Their domestic season in Primera RFEF, however, has been far from straightforward.

Although they picked up a much-needed victory over Osasuna Promesas last weekend, the team remains in the relegation zone, fighting to escape from a difficult run of form.

Between late September and late November, Guadalajara endured a particularly challenging spell.

Across 11 matches, they managed just one win, the opening round of the Copa, drawing five and losing five.

Founded in 1947, Club Deportivo Guadalajara have built a deep local identity and play their matches at Estadio Pedro Escartin, a ground with a capacity of just 6,000 spectators.

The upcoming visit of Barcelona will undoubtedly be one of the most high-profile events in the club’s modern history, providing a showcase occasion for their fans and players alike.

Their manager, Pere Marti, is no stranger to Spanish football. A former defensive midfielder with experience at clubs such as Villarreal, Elche and Malaga, he retired in 2011 before transitioning into coaching three years later.

Marti took charge of Guadalajara in 2024, and since then he has overseen 51 matches, securing 28 wins, 13 draws and 10 defeats, which is an impressive record that reflects steady development within the squad.
