A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona appears to have ruled himself out of contention for the upcoming edition of El Clásico.

The player in question? Joan García.

Goalkeeper Joan is of course condemned to the sidelines at present.

This comes after the 24-year-old was forced under the knife to solve a knee problem suffered late last month.

The hope, initially was that Joan may return to fitness just in time for Barcelona’s showdown with arch rivals Real Madrid late in October.

As alluded to above, however, if the latest comments on the part of the shot-stopper himself are anything to go by, then as much is beginning to look increasingly unlikely.

Speaking whilst in attendance at the Euroleague basketball match between Barcelona and Valencia on Friday night, Joan was asked for the latest on his injury recovery.

And the former Espanyol man, in quotes gathered by Movistar and cited by Mundo Deportivo, went on to explain:

“My knee is good. Everything is okay. About a month left, we’ll see how it goes.”

With El Clásico set to play out in just over two weeks, Joan, in turn, looks all but certain to miss out.
