Barcelona and Spain star Pedri has on Sunday provided a public response to the recent message sent his way by German counterpart Toni Kroos.
For those who may have missed it, the retiring Kroos forwarded a message of apology to Pedri on Saturday.
This came after a challenge on the part of the 34-year-old early in the Euro 2024 meeting between Spain and Germany forced Pedri into a premature departure from the action.
Not only that, but the 21-year-old is now understood to be in line for an extended spell on the sidelines.
Post-match, as part of his retirement message across social media, Kroos was therefore sure to reach out to Pedri:
“This is still very important to me: apologies and get well soon, Pedri! Logically it wasn’t my intention to hurt you. A speedy recovery and all the best. You are a great player.”
Kroos’ message fell on deaf ears amongst many of a Barcelona persuasion, who made clear their frustrations with a player who will go down as a modern day great at arch rivals Real Madrid.
For Pedri himself, though, the sentiment is an altogether different one.
In his own post on Instagram on Sunday, the midfield starlet moved to thank Kroos for his kind words, before hailing the German for his brilliant career:
“Thank you Toni Kroos for your message. This is football and these things happen. Your career and your achievements remain forever.”
