Barcelona star set for first start of the season vs Sevilla | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is ready to afford a first start of the new season to a member of his goalkeeper contingent this weekend. This comes amid the assurance that the German maintains full faith in the talents of Wojciech Szczęsny.

Shot-stopper Szczęsny was for his part introduced off the bench on Wednesday evening, for his first appearance of the campaign all told.

After Joan García picked up a fitness problem en route to Barcelona’s La Liga demolition of Racing Santander, the Pole was thrown into the fray at the interval.

From here, Szczęsny was at fault for Racing pulling one back midway through the 2nd-half, giving rise to suggestions that summer signing Dominik Livaković could be utilised against Sevilla this weekend, in the case of Joan, as expected, not being risked.

As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then this will not be the case.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘The idea, unless there is a change with Joan Garcia’s situation, is that Szczęsny occupies the goal at the Sánchez Pizjuán.’
