An up-and-coming member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona played a starring role on Tuesday, as Spain’s U21s secured their place at the European Championships.

La Rojita marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to Kecskemét for a Euro qualifying meeting with Hungary.

And, when all was said and done, Santi Denia’s troops battled their way to a hard-fought 1-0 triumph.

Robert Navarro bagged the game’s only goal, slotting home from the edge of the hosts’ penalty area with 20 minutes on the clock.

As has proven the case time and time again, meanwhile, playing key roles for Spain were breakthrough talents from La Liga table-toppers Barcelona.

Featuring from the off on Tuesday were both Pau Cubarsí and Pablo Torre.

The latter enjoyed another predictably solid evening’s work at the heart of defence, whilst midfielder Torre, who was called up to Spain’s squad in place of fellow Blaugrana starlet Fermín López, shone bright in attacking midfield.

The 21-year-old continued to look a constant source of creativity and threat in the final third, efforts which will no doubt have been taken full note of by Barcelona headmaster Hansi Flick.
