FC Barcelona are already mapping out their long-term attacking plans as the club prepares for life after Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker, now 37, remains a vital presence both on and off the pitch, but the sporting department recognises that identifying his successor can no longer be delayed.

One of the names rapidly rising to the top of their shortlist is Etta Eyong, the 22-year-old Cameroonian striker who has been one of La Liga’s breakout stars this season. Having joined Levante from Villarreal for just €3.8 million last summer, Eyong has impressed with his pace, physicality, and clinical finishing.

In his first 10 league appearances, Eyong has scored 6 goals and registered 3 assists, catching the eye of scouts across Europe.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Eyong has now decided that he wants his future resolved during the January transfer window. The striker hopes to finalise an agreement with his next club by then, but intends to remain at Levante on loan until June.

His stance is influenced by FIFA regulations that prevent a player from representing three clubs in a single campaign. Having already featured for both Villarreal and Levante this season, he cannot move again until the summer.

Despite this, interest in the Cameroonian continues to grow. Barcelona remain particularly keen, viewing him as a strong candidate to eventually replace Lewandowski. However, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Arsenal are also closely monitoring his situation.

Eyong’s admiration for Barcelona adds an intriguing layer to the story. At 17, he was pictured wearing a Barça shirt and openly expressed his deep admiration for the Catalan club.

Financially, the move appears to be within Barcelona’s reach if the Catalan giants manage to achieve the 1:1 status in January. Eyong’s release clause is set at €30 million for La Liga clubs and €40 million for Premier League sides as per the report, making him a comparatively affordable target.

In today’s inflated market, that figure looks like a rare opportunity. For context, Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, who has matched Eyong’s goal tally this season, would cost well over €140 million.

However, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona can resolve their financial situation in time and make a concrete move to secure one of La Liga’s standout revelations of the 2025/26 season at a reasonable price.
