Barcelona are pushing hard to complete a deal for Rodri before their 2026-27 La Liga gets underway next weekend. An agreement on personal terms is already in place with the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner, and all that remains is to pay a price that Manchester City are prepared to accept.
Last week, Barcelona swooped for Rodri after Real Madrid stalled on an offer despite having agreed personal terms themselves. The 30-year-old decided on Catalonia as his next destination, and now, he is just waiting for a deal to be done, so that he can head to the Spotify Camp Nou to continue his career.
Over the weekend, Barcelona had an opening offer rejected by Man City, but this has not deterred them. As per Fabrizio Romano, a new verbal proposal has been sent to the offices of the Premier League club, valued at €60m with add-ons.
However, this is unlikely to be enough for a deal to be given the green light by Man City, who are asking for €80m – despite Rodri having less than a year remaining on his contract. Nevertheless, Barcelona are determined to get their man, and the feeling is that a fee in the region of €70m (with add-ons included) could be enough.
Rodri is due back at Man City this week, although he will not train fully due to still being in the recovery phase after undergoing minor surgery after Spain’s 2026 World Cup success in July. Nevertheless, Barcelona are keen to ensure that he does not travel to Manchester, as this would reduce their chances of a deal being done.
For now, it remains to be seen how the situation with Rodri develops. Barcelona are pushing hard to sign him, but until now, they have yet to convince Man City to sell.
